 Birthday Reflections August 11th 2006

So another year has gone by, I've got a couple of new wrinkles and a little more wisdom. I guess I don't have much to complain about, at 31 I'm really in the best shape of my life, and my next 5 year plan is in the works. I've been accepted to Wright State which I'll be starting in the Winter quarter on my BA in Marketing. (I opted against going in the Fall, since I've had a long planned, fishing trip to California scheduled around Labor Day) I really just need to unplug for a few weeks, throw back some cold ones, and breath some clean mountain air. Expect lots of pics and maybe a few alcohol induced blog entries in early September : )

I've been officially single for almost a year now, and thats been kind of a mixed bag. There are times I love the freedom, being able to go wherever / whenever I please. But the nagging feeling that its time to find someone is starting to eat at me. Dating is just really brutal, I've been let down hard a few times, and have had to do the same to a few people myself. Having been on both sides of that exchange, I can safely say it feels equally shitty being the rejector, and the rejected. But I've seen what can happen when you don't remain true to yourself. So I plan on getting it right this time, even if it means waiting a lifetime to find her.

A few observations from the past year:

• Be happy with who you are, don't try to become something you're not. And never let someone change you to fit their will.

• Look for the best in people. (I've started to take heart in the belief that at their core most of us are fundamentally good)

• Never settle with less than your best. (Actions speak louder than words, and more than anything that's what people will remember about you.)

• Be good to who you're with, never let a day go by without saying you love them. You never know when it will be the last time you get to say so.

• Measure twice, cut once. (Whether that be in the literal sense, or more importantly in what you say. Think twice before you say it, words cut far deeper than a knife.)

So here's to another year, may it be better than my 30th...
