Macromedia to Bundle Spyware with Flash

Ever watch one of your friends-whom you have a lot of respect for-do something incredibly stupid? I mean the kind of asinine act, that makes you wonder if you should re-evaluate your relationship with them. That’s kind of how I feel right now about Macromedia.

I just learned that they are planning on bundling Weatherbug and Yahoo Toolbar with the free downloads of Flash player, and Shockwave. You heard me right folks, they want to bundle what is arguably their flagship technology with some of the worst spyware on the web!

I don’t know how much Yahoo is paying them for this, but it better be a boat load of cash; because if they go through with this it will certainly result in a huge loss of cache in their public image.

I could see a lot of people getting turned off, and moving to alternate technologies (cough.. java.. cough)

This could hit home particularly hard for the folks that have spent a helluva long time learning how to develop in Flash (which I can say from experience isn’t the most user friendly app) So if you’re a Flash developer, I’d suggest you let your voice be heard on this matter, as a decision like this could very quickly make that knowledge obsolete.
