iTunes Song Links? August 7th 2006
I think that iTunes has begun to create a generational gap in how people perceive music. This is just speaking from my own personal experience, but I'm sure I'm not alone in this. Many of the songs that I listen to I associate with other songs, that neighbor them on a CD. This perception of "chronological" ordering of tracks, is slowly disappearing from our culture, thanks to the level of control iTunes gives it's end users; combined with it's à la carte business model, suddenly the order of tracks on a CD is irrelevant. The collective experience of listening to music in a certain order, is quickly becoming a thing of the past.
I'm not sure how I feel about this, but I do have a suggestion for the folks at Apple. There should be some way for us "old schoolers" to link two songs together, so that even if you have a playlist set to shuffle, it will play those two songs that you have come to know as "belonging" with each other back to back. Are you listening Apple? :)
